The Journey of the Farmers’ Rebellion is a tribute to the unrelenting struggle of the farmers and their resistance to the pro-corporate agenda of the rulers in Delhi. It is an attempt to bring to the readers a complex yet coherent picture about what this farmers’ movement entailed and what it truly accomplished, through in-depth interviews with the leaders of farmer, agricultural worker and landless peasant unions, and also journalists, economists and activists engaged in this struggle. This book aims to contextualise and capture the various dimensions of this revolt: its methods, successes, and shortcomings; its internal contradictions and fault lines; and the lessons this rebellion has for future people’s movements in India.

This book is an attempt to contextualise and capture the various dimensions of the farmers’ movement against the three farm laws enacted by the government of India in September 2020. This collaborative work emerging from the labour of three independent media collectives and their comrades is the result of our political conviction. We believe that the collective conscience of the people of this country which today stands poisoned through a mix of ultra-nationalism and hatred towards Muslims and other minorities, and has been seemingly programmed towards a willful acceptance of the corporate-backed Hindutva rule, will be reshaped. And it will be reshaped by people’s movements like the one, whose footsteps we have tried to document in this book.
